- ➤ Deadly flooding hit Kerr County after heavy rain over Independence Day weekend. Several groups including eight Longview Fire Department officers left on July 2 to help clean up and bring supplies to local schools while non-profits gathered donations. KETK
- ➤ A Lindale veterinarian is asking East Texans to donate supplies for animals affected by recent floods in Kerrville and Central Texas — donations, including pet food, carriers, tarps and towels, will be accepted at Lindale Veterinary Clinic, 16366 Farm to Market Road 16 West until July 11 at 8 a.m. KETK
- ➤ Lee Downing, a 96-year-old Kilgore veteran, recalled his service in Japan after World War II—he helped rebuild communications systems and witnessed integration among troops in a nation recovering from war. He described how American soldiers and local Japanese worked together to restore the country while he served as a staff sergeant before returning to a long career in telephone work.
