EDUCATION NEWS

  • Longview Public Library launches a summer cookbook book club for adult food lovers and will meet on July 12 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. — InterLibrary Loan copies of the first cookbook will be available in June for checkout using a library card — and attendance is free for those aged 18 and older.  City of Longview

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The East Texas Food Bank warned that the Senate's bill to cut nearly $186 billion from SNAP will hurt families in rural East Texas and add $716 million a year in costs to Texas by 2028. The non-profit urged lawmakers to act now — protect SNAP to prevent empty refrigerators, hungry children and deeper poverty for local residents.  KETK

HEALTH NEWS

  • Texas A&M AgriLife experts urged Longview residents to stay alert to West Nile virus by checking for mosquito risks and removing standing water near homes. They advised limiting outdoor time after 9:00 p.m. and wearing protective clothing—using EPA-approved repellents to help reduce mosquito bites.  Kilgore News Herald
