- ➤ The City of Longview invites local residents to nominate individuals whose achievements have positively impacted the area for the Walk of Honor, with honorees to be marked by a Downtown sidewalk plaque at a celebration later this year. Nominations are accepted until June 30 and will be reviewed by the Walk of Honor Task Force—chaired by Tim Patrick. City of Longview
- ➤ Longview Parks and Recreation has announced a summer Learn to Swim program at Ingram Pool for children as young as 6 months with two sessions, one running July 7 to 17 and the other July 21 to 31—each offering classes at 9:00 a.m., 10:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. Registration for Session 1 is open from June 23 to July 2 and for Session 2 from June 30 to July 17, and the cost is $60 per session. - ➤ Jose Mercedes Saucedo-Guerrero, a 34-year-old illegal immigrant, was sentenced to 14 years in prison after officers found 2,972 grams of meth in his vehicle during a May 2 traffic stop in Kilgore — his previous immigration offenses were part of the investigation. KETK

- ➤ Governor Abbott signed Senate Bill 10 that will require every public school classroom to display a 16 by 20 inch Ten Commandments poster starting in September — lawmakers say the move is meant to remind students of important moral values while critics argue it forces religion on students.
