COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Country musician Glen Templeton will headline Longview’s annual Fireworks and Freedom Celebration on July 4th at the Longview Convention Complex where the free event will feature a car show, petting zoo, hot dog eating contest and fireworks scheduled to begin at 9:30 p.m. The festivities start at 6 p.m. (music begins at 6:30 p.m.) and include an opening act by singer-songwriter Devin Michaels (a Refugio native).  Longview News-Journal
  • Kilgore Public Library announced the results of its Summer Showdown Trivia: Kids vs. Adults at Zen Kitchen, with the grown-up team (The Library Ladies) winning thanks to a multi-generation lineup while kid teams lost points. The library will continue its summer events (with extended hours and more activities) through July.  Kilgore News Herald

CULTURE NEWS

  • This Sunday, First United Methodist Church will host free tours from 2-4 p.m. to display its 75-year-old stained glass windows that tell the story of Jesus from birth to ascension. Longtime member Bettye Craddock will lead 40-minute tours with cake and refreshments offered afterward — a unique way for the community to experience the church’s art.  Longview News-Journal

  • Sergeant Drew Allison received the 2025 State of Texas Law Enforcement Achievement Award on June 13 for his work establishing the Longview Police Department as a regional training hub for ALERRT active shooter response — his leadership enabled over 50 agencies to access more than 60 courses and 16 train-the-trainer classes.  City of Longview
