EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The annual East Texas Annual - Perennial Plant Trial will be held on June 26 at the Texas A&M AgriLife Research & Extension Center in Overton so local gardeners and landscapers can explore new annual and perennial plant varieties. Participants can visit the field trial from 8:30 to 11 a.m. and the container trial from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with no fee for attendance. Kilgore News Herald

- ➤ Longview Public Library will be closed all day on June 19 for the Juneteenth holiday—local officials encourage residents to explore available city events on that day. City of Longview
- ➤ Longview City Council will vote Thursday at 5:30 p.m. at City Hall on appointing Greg Grimes as the new fire chief—he was recommended after a national search led by City Manager Rolin McPhee. Grimes, with 25 years at the Allen Fire Department, is set to succeed former chief J.P. Steelman, who retired in March. Longview News-Journal
