COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ The City of Lakeport opened its first park on Saturday at 207 Milam Road near the City Government Building. The park cost about $500,000—featuring a ribbon cutting, raffle prizes, and food and ice cream to welcome local residents. KETK
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Longview is restarting curbside recycling Monday after nearly a year-long pause when a fire destroyed the Kilgore facility that the city used for 12 years—residents now can recycle paper, cardboard, plastics No. 1 and 2, and household metals. Longview News-Journal
- ➤ TxDOT is planning several road construction projects in Gregg and Rusk counties the week of June 2 — work includes rebuilding SH 135’s traffic circle, resurfacing I-20, reconstructing US 84, and upgrading FM 3231, SH 315, FM 2658, US 79 N, and SH 43. Motorists will face lane closures and delays as crews work on these projects and schedules may change due to weather or equipment issues — drivers should proceed with caution in work zones. - ➤ Kilgore Police Department Investigator Angela Burch was honored for 30 years of service when the city council presented her with a service pin and certificate, and her work has improved evidence handling while building community ties (she has also played Taps at Memorial Day services).
