COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Longview will launch a month-long Juneteenth celebration on June 6 with a praise concert at the Community Center. The events continue on June 20 with a parade, festival, and more as city officials and local groups plan activities to honor freedom, culture and community. Longview News-Journal
BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Foltyn’s General Store opened in downtown Gladewater at 100 S. Main St. (offering custom coffees, retro candies and specialty foods for a lasting community legacy) while Longview welcomed its third Braum’s store at 1420 W. Loop 281 and On the Border closed permanently as Pappas Restaurants refocus. Longview News-Journal
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Hallsville High School held its graduation ceremony at Bobcat Stadium on Friday, May 24, where (Class of 2026) students received their diplomas. Kush Mayur Mali was valedictorian and Zoey Davis was salutatorian. Longview News-Journal
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ After receiving approval from the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement and a criminal justice number from the Texas Department of Public Safety, Longview ISD established its own police department to hire officers before school starts; it already has eight school marshals (with three more being hired) who serve different roles. Longview News-Journal
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Kilgore College and Tyler Junior College softball players were honored in Region XIV postseason awards released Monday, May 25. Kilgore’s Stephanie Salas earned first team all-conference honors, and Trinity Valley’s Allie Wainwright and Dominique Vargas were named player and pitcher of the year. Kilgore News Herald
