ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ AAA said gas prices in Texas fell five cents since last week and are down 39 cents from last year. In Longview, prices dropped 40 cents as supply — which now exceeds demand — helps push down pump prices ahead of Memorial Day weekend. KETK
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Kilgore College will host summer camps for children and youth starting in June that offer sports and arts programs such as basketball, football, softball, pickleball, music, acting and dance. The camps are scheduled with specific dates, age groups, and fees + designed to meet varied interests. Kilgore News Herald
- ➤ Tyler ISD Superintendent Marty Crawford said the district will receive extra funds for teacher incentives and school safety once House Bill 2 is signed into law. The legislation passed the Senate on Friday and directs a portion of an $8.5 billion state allocation + $430 million for school safety to improve pay for both educators and support staff. KETK
- ➤ The North East Texas Regional Mobility Authority awarded ten local high school seniors $2,000 each through the Linda Thomas Safe Driving Scholarship Program—recognizing their safe driving essays and extracurricular achievements. Sydney Hines from Lindale High School shared how her short documentary on drunk driving aims to help others understand why safe driving matters. KETK
- ➤ Kilgore High School Health Science students were honored this week with a trophy from Because I Care for recruiting 35 potential donors during a drive on May 14 (about 30 more than the next school). - ➤ Graduating Spring Hill High School seniors walked across the Belcher Center stage on Friday night during their commencement. Bryce Socoteanu served as valedictorian — and Keaton Croom as salutatorian while the top 10 percent of the Class of 2025 were also recognized. Longview News-Journal
