Good morning, Longview.

Longview Parks and Recreation opened an esports room at Broughton Recreation Center today to give local youth a safe place to play video games after school — access requires rec center membership, a free library card, and limited seating for spectators.

Longview’s month-long Juneteenth celebration will include major city events such as a parade at 10 a.m., a festival from noon to 7 p.m., and a business expo on Saturday, June 14—while community groups plan many other events throughout the month to honor freedom and culture.

East Texas voters head to the polls today to elect city council and school board members and decide on tax proposals for fire protection and school bonds—Longview District No. 5 residents will choose between Councilwoman Michelle Gamboa and challenger Jody Berryhill at their designated polling center.

Smith County Elections Administrator Michelle Allcon said early voting ended Tuesday with just over 1,400 of 70,000 eligible voters casting ballots, a low turnout she warned could affect local races like city council and school bonds; she urged more residents to vote in elections today—stressing that low participation leaves little room for a say in local decisions.
