CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The Annual Ark-La-Tex Tattoo & Art Expo is set for May 16-18 and will feature award-winning artists, live music, tattoo contests, kids attractions, art exhibits and food vendors. Tickets will be sold only at the event with hours on Friday from noon to 11 p.m., Saturday from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 9 p.m. City of Longview
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Texas House passed a bill to ban political ads made with AI that mislead voters unless the ad makes clear the content is not real—lawmakers voted 102 to 40 before sending the measure to the Senate. The new law would impose fines up to $4,000 or up to one year in jail for violations. Longview News-Journal
- ➤ Longview voters approved $27 million in transportation bonds in 2018 with nearly $6 million set aside for sidewalk and pedestrian improvements on Cotton Street. To cover a funding shortfall, the city applied for a $5 million TxDOT grant and if approved this fall, construction on the 1.5-mile project from Grand Boulevard to Green Street will begin in spring 2027—improving safe travel for pedestrians. - ➤ Councilwoman Michelle Gamboa led District 5 fundraising as reports filed April 25 showed she raised $9,775 and spent $8,484 while challenger Jody Berryhill raised $3,100 and spent $1,691. Voting will take place Saturday, May 3 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Spring Hill Jr. High Gym — key donors included Ron Hutchinson and Mayor Kristen Ishihara with her husband. Longview News-Journal
- ➤ Longview firefighter Blaine Cardinale (a paramedic who previously served in the Navy) re-enlisted in the U.S. Navy on May 1 and had his oath administered at the firehouse by fellow firefighter Joe Dembowski. KETK
