GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • TxDOT began a $3.2 million project to rehabilitate McCann Road between U.S. 80 and Loop 281, with nightly closures for repairs — bridge work now and milling next week — and the three-mile project is set to finish in three months.  Longview News-Journal

SPORTS NEWS

  • LeTourneau’s baseball team earned the No. 2 seed in the SCAC Championship Tournament, receiving a bye and set to meet the top remaining team after Thursday’s opening round at La Moderna Field (3 p.m.) in Cleburne. The YellowJackets finished their season with a record nine game win streak.  Longview News-Journal
  • Yesterday, local baseball teams showed strong play as Hallsville edged Walnut Grove 5-2; Beckville won 10-1, Frankston triumphed 4-2, Gary blanked Hemphill 10-0, and Union Hill routed Trinidad 13-3 in playoff action. Dunn Smith, Wesdon Harris, and E.J. Mowery led their teams.  Longview News-Journal
  • Yesterday, White Oak beat Atlanta 5-1 in an area playoff series while Beckville swept McLeod with 6-1 & 10-0 wins and Overton edged C-Pickton 4-3 in competitive matchups.  Longview News-Journal
  • Richardson’s Ed Turner won the Texas Super Senior Championship at Tempest Golf Club in Gladewater on Wednesday, finishing one stroke ahead (his win marks his first statewide title and his sixth national title for players 65 and older).  Longview News-Journal
  • Lindale rallied in a Class 4A Division 1 playoff series game as the Eagles beat the Pirates 6 to 3 on Wednesday night at home — Kaden Adams delivered a triple that produced three runs. The series continues today at 7 p.m. at Pine Tree.  Longview News-Journal
  • Spring Hill’s Elizabeth Corbitt and Carthage’s Jett Surratt earned top honors at the 12th annual Best Preps event held at Maude Cobb Convention Center on Wednesday. The event recognized athletes for excellence in sports, academics (including a 3.0 GPA requirement) and community service.  Longview News-Journal
