- ➤ On May 7 from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., community members will join a free song listening party where each attendee brings a song that reflects how they feel about the world—therapists will be on hand to offer support. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Today, early voting for May elections in East Texas shows low participation—Gregg County City of Longview District 5 recorded 561 votes at 6.4% turnout while other areas, including Kilgore and Nacogdoches, reported rates between 1% and 7.5%. KETK
- ➤ The High Street bridge reopened Tuesday after a project lasting two years and costing $9.3 million replaced the old unsafe structure over the Union Pacific tracks. City and state transportation officials say lane closures may continue as Ragle Construction finishes final work — rail officials helped keep train delays to a minimum. Longview News-Journal
- ➤ At a forum hosted by the Chamber of Commerce, Longview News-Journal and local cable TV, District 5 candidates discussed key issues regarding bond projects and infrastructure. Councilwoman Michelle Gamboa said most projects, including work at Panther Park and a new fire station, are nearly finished while challenger Jody Berryhill questioned spending choices and the rising cost of the Stamper Park pool—citing concerns over financial decisions.
