COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Finn’s Friends—a group that helps families with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy—held a ribbon-cutting event on Tuesday, April 29 at its new headquarters at 434 East Loop 281 in Longview. The event ran from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and marked a new step in their work.  KETK

EDUCATION NEWS

  • More than 200 Longview High School seniors took part in the district's first Senior Walk on Tuesday—visiting all seven elementary schools and meeting former teachers and young students. The seniors, dressed in caps and gowns, will graduate on May 16 at Lobo Stadium—marking a new chapter in their school journey.  Longview News-Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • City Council District 5 voters will cast ballots on May 3 at the Spring Hill Jr. High Gym from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., and unofficial results will be posted Saturday evening while additional mail-in ballots may affect the final tally. The District 6 election was canceled after Sidney Allen ran unopposed to replace Councilman Steve Pirtle.  City of Longview
  • High Street Bridge is fully open after a $9.3 million reconstruction project between Nelson Street and Marion Drive led by the Texas Department of Transportation and Ragle Construction—drivers may still encounter occasional outside lane closures as contractors complete final punch list work.  City of Longview
