EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Spring Hill ISD voters will decide May 2 on a $20 million bond package to repair school facilities, purchase three new buses, replace air systems, and update athletic field and tennis facilities — a measure that will not raise property taxes even as it keeps the district in good shape. HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Ranchers in East Texas learned about the New World screwworm at a recent Texas A and M AgriLife session in Overton. Experts say farmers should inspect cattle wounds, as sterile fly releases + treatments help keep the pest's spread in check. Kilgore News Herald
- ➤ Texas A&M researchers found that a two-dose nasal spray improved memory in 18-month-old mice by reducing brain inflammation & boosting cell energy. They warn that more tests are needed before the treatment may help reverse brain aging in humans. Longview News-Journal
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Eleven Longview High School student-athletes signed national letters of intent yesterday at the final signing ceremony held in the Lobo Turf Room, as family, teammates, and coaches celebrated sports including track, softball, swimming, basketball, baseball, football and soccer. Longview News-Journal
- ➤ LeTourneau YellowJackets women's golf team won its first conference championship Tuesday at Hawks Creek Golf Club with a 52-over score that earned an NCAA berth for May 19-22. Kinley Pessel claimed medalist honors in the shortened final round. Longview News-Journal
- ➤ Spring Hill captured their fifth consecutive district title with a 1-0 win over Gilmer on Wednesday—Mason Barnes struck out three, walked none, and gave up five hits in a complete game. Longview News-Journal
- ➤ On Tuesday at Hawks Creek Golf Club, the LeTourneau men claimed the SCAC title with a (5-under round) in a weather-shortened final and won by 12 strokes over Texas Lutheran. The win gives them an automatic berth to the NCAA Championships set for May 12-15 at Mission Inn Resort in Howey-in-the-Hills. Longview News-Journal
