- ➤ Longview News-Journal reporter Jo Lee Ferguson was named Rotary Club Citizen of the Year Tuesday at Pinecrest Country Club—she has covered local government news for 27 years and continues her reporting while battling cancer. Longview News-Journal
- ➤ Lakeview Baptist Assembly Church campgrounds in Lone Star will reopen today for three scheduled groups after an EF-2 tornado on April 4 damaged the church grounds—250 to 300 trees were lost and part of the worship center was harmed. Campgrounds managers said they plan to check on replacing the trees after canceling five events. KETK
- ➤ Greater Longview United Way raised over $1 million during its 2024-25 campaign to support local nonprofits and community programs—nearly meeting its $1.1 million goal as tough economic conditions limited donations. An extra $140,058 was raised for other programs and future campaign leadership has been named with Erika Rader set to lead the 2025-26 effort. Longview News-Journal

- ➤ On April 22 (at approximately 2:47 p.m.), Longview Police responded to a shooting on the 900 block of Toler Road and found a male victim who was pronounced dead at the scene. City of Longview
- ➤ A former Longview doctor, Matt Elza Hipke, who was set to be sentenced on child sex crimes this week, was found dead in his North Longview home+ authorities ordered an autopsy+ and police say there is no danger to the community. Longview News-Journal
- ➤ A Longview man was charged in the city's first homicide when police responded Wednesday afternoon to a shooting on the 900 block of Toler Road, where Jonathan Ragland was pronounced dead by a Gregg County justice of the peace — Dalton Chandler Lawrence, 26, was arrested and faces additional warrants totaling $45,000.
