- ➤ Dr. Steve Elers (an Anglican priest from New Zealand) and student Glory Griffin produced a dual-language video of 'How Great Thou Art' and its Māori version, Whakaaria Mai, honoring Billy Graham’s ties to the university. - ➤ Georgia Scott of Trinity School won the 1500m at the Tom Jones weekend, and Tempest Golf Club will host the Super Senior Championship—Kilgore College plans a football combine on May 9, a youth camp June 8 to 11, and an Athletics Hall of Fame weekend on Sept. 25-26. Longview News-Journal
- ➤ ET Softball bi-district playoffs begin Thursday as Longview faces Garland at 6:30 p.m. in North Forney, with Class 5A matchups starting at 7 p.m. in Forney; games continue through Saturday across regional sites. Longview News-Journal
- ➤ Spring Hill’s Aubrey Whiddon and Hallsville’s Ella Baird earned softball weekly honors from the Longview News-Journal for games played April 13-18 as Whiddon hit .714 and Baird pitched two wins; Spring Hill will face Van at Tyler Legacy while Hallsville meets Denison in Forney later this week. - ➤ On Monday, LeTourneau players swept the SCAC weekly awards when sophomore Jack Kale earned Hitter of the Week with a .500 average and three home runs and senior Clayton Holt received Pitcher of the Week honors after a nine-inning shutout at Conrad-Vernon Field—the team has won six straight games heading into Friday's series at Schreiner. - ➤ Former Lobo King Haynes King returned home Tuesday at Pinecrest Country Club for a Rotary Club welcome event. Supported by county Judge Bill Stoudt, Mayor Kristen Ishihara, and State Rep.
