COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Last Saturday, the Civic Garden Club met at 9:30 a.m. where President Rita Thompson led a Backyard Birds meeting (27 members attended) and announced a Lufkin workshop on June 9 and a meeting on Wed, May 13 at Diana Ponder’s.  Kilgore News Herald

EDUCATION NEWS

  • LeTourneau University leaders and community members broke ground Friday on a $52M, 100,000 sqft Christian Polytechnic University Center designed to house engineering, business, and computer science departments on campus. The four-story facility is scheduled to open in summer 2028.  Longview News-Journal
  • Two candidates for the Kilgore College presidency presented their visions and qualifications at public forums held at the Devall Student Center earlier this week (Dr. Martin spoke Wednesday and Dr. Watts on Thursday), with both sessions livestreamed on Zoom.  Kilgore News Herald

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Texas officials released a draft of the 2027 State Water plan that estimates at least $174B to prevent a water crisis over half a century, with a public comment period through May 29 and a hearing in Austin on May 27 + the plan addresses water needs for growing communities.  Longview News-Journal

SPORTS NEWS

  • Cade Stuckey pitched a complete game and hit a homer to lead the Hallsville Bobcats to an 8-2 win on Friday at the Wildcats' diamond (Whitehouse). The win moved Hallsville to second place and snapped Whitehouse's five-game winning streak.  Longview News-Journal
  • LeTourneau baseball honored eight seniors on Senior Day after sweeping Hendrix at Conrad-Vernon Field on Friday; standout plays from Jack Kale and Chris Savage marked the wins. The team will round out the season with a road series against Schreiner next weekend.  Longview News-Journal
