- ➤ Mobberly Baptist Church will host its annual rummage sale on May 2-3 to raise funds for its Family Services that support residents in need in Gregg County—organizers will share more details as the event approaches. City of Longview
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Longview High School Viewettes will host their annual precision drill team revue with the theme 'The Real Viewettes of Longview High School' from April 24 to 26 at the Mickey Melton Performing Arts Center. On April 26 the team will honor the original 1964—65 class with a special recognition ceremony and a noon luncheon at McCann Street Bar & Grill. Longview News-Journal
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Texas State Technical College accepted 29 new high school students at an April 10 signing event (NC3 National CTE) on its Marshall campus, where Corey Grant from Leverett's Chapel High School and others will join technical programs this summer or fall. Kilgore News Herald
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Longview District 1 Councilman Derrick Conley said he continues serving on the council while keeping his Longview home as he works as Alto ISD’s superintendent, which requires him to live in Alto — he will inform the city if his living situation changes. Longview News-Journal
- ➤ Gregg County Judge Bill Stoudt announced he will run for his seventh and final term in 2026 during his State of the County address at Jalapeno Tree. The 23-year county judge said he will file in November and complete projects like a $24.7 million parking facility and new county offices—if re-elected his term will run from 2027 to 2031. Longview News-Journal
- ➤ State Rep. Jay Dean of Longview voted in favor of Senate Bill 2 for a school voucher program using public funds after he helped add changes (like a two-year limit and state audits) to protect local schools. He said the changes also will bring more money to schools and raise pay for long-serving teachers. Longview News-Journal
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Nineteen measles cases have been confirmed in Upshur County and are linked to two out-of-towners who visited the location. All patients (aged over 17) are isolated and following state guidelines, and no further spread has been reported in local schools or medical facilities. Longview News-Journal
