- ➤ Crews of Longview Parks + Recreation have improved drainage on Boorman Trail to keep it clear after heavy rains, reducing the need for regular cleanup. The department will begin cutting a new path from the Longview Arboretum and Nature Center to the Grace Creek Mountain Bike Trail this summer. Longview News-Journal

EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ On Friday, the State Board of Education gave preliminary approval to a revamped social studies curriculum and a Bible-infused reading list that will guide instruction for Texas public schools; final votes are scheduled for June and changes will take effect in 2030 (affecting roughly 5.5 million students). - ➤ Educators were honored at Longview ISD Foundation’s 26th annual Lamplighter Awards at Pinecrest Country Club on Thursday evening — students read essays that highlighted teachers’ dedication and inspired classroom learning. Longview News-Journal
- ➤ Kilgore College will host public forums for its presidential finalists, Dr. Staci Martin and Dr. Tracee Watts, on April 15 and 16 in the Devall Student Center Ballroom on campus. - ➤ Leverett’s Chapel High School track teams shined at Thursday's District Meet at Union Hill, advancing several athletes to the Area competition. Girls led by Lacie Hayes will compete Monday at Miller Grove while boys including Adrian Harrison will run on Thursday. Kilgore News Herald
- ➤ Spring Hill Panthers secured a 3-1 win Friday at historic Driller Park in a District 16-4A baseball game after scoring late runs to reverse a loss. They improved to 17-7-2 and will face Chapel Hill next week. Longview News-Journal
