CULTURE NEWS

  • White Oak High School senior Abby Robertson has had her painting chosen by the first lady to hang in the governor’s office after it was selected at the statewide Youth Art Month Spring Exhibition. Her piece, depicting a golden retriever on a piano, will be displayed after summer.  Longview News-Journal

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Longview ISD hired SCI Construction to renovate the high school under a 2024 bond and will name its new CTE facility after principal James Brewer (honoring his legacy). The district is negotiating the sale of a math and science building near Christus Good Shepherd Medical Center for $1.55 million.  Longview News-Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • U.S. Rep Nathaniel Moran said he was devastated by the cancellation of a $375M grant intended for Eastman Chemical's plastic recycling facility outside Longview, putting the planned $1.2B project (which was set to create about 1,200 jobs) on hold.  Longview News-Journal

SPORTS NEWS

  • Longview High School assistant football coach Josh Rankin was honored as one of the state’s top 50 assistant coaches through the Texas 50 initiative. His recognition includes a virtual Master Class Series in April and a capstone event in Waco on June 17.  Longview News-Journal
  • Today at Pirate Stadium in Longview, Chapel Hill won the varsity boys title & Gilmer claimed the varsity girls crown at the District 16-4A Track & Field meet. The event showcased local talent in a hard-fought competition.  Longview News-Journal
  • Kilgore College Rangers began four weeks of spring practice on Monday in preparation for the 2026 season. Drills run from 9 a.m.+noon Monday through Thursday for three weeks before the Spring Game on Saturday, May 2 at R.E. St. John Memorial Stadium, with the season opening Aug. 22 at Blinn.  Longview News-Journal
