- ➤ After Friday’s tornado caused widespread damage in Lone Star and led to an overnight curfew from 8 pm to 8 am, Andrea Franzese—who drove in from Pittsburgh for a women’s weekend at Lakeview Baptist Assembly Church campgrounds—said she felt God’s protection as she watched cars being moved and trees torn down. Cleanup and recovery efforts are underway as her faith provided a life-changing lesson during the storm. KETK
- ➤ Members of the 35th Line of Kilgore College Rangerettes gathered at the Old Post Office last weekend to prepare for a 50th anniversary celebration that marks the line's first participation in the team; the celebration will coincide with Rangerette Revels and a new photo gallery exhibit of the team's history. - ➤ The Longview Symphony will host its Cosmic Quest Map Challenge on Sunday from 2 to 4:30 p.m. at the Longview Arboretum and Nature Center— a free, interactive event where participants complete sci-fi themed challenges and enter a prize contest. The event leads to the Out of this World: Sci-fi Adventure concert— scheduled for April 26 at LeTourneau University's Belcher Center, which will feature music from popular sci-fi films and shows. - ➤ Smith County Judge Neal Franklin updated residents at the State of the County Luncheon held Tuesday afternoon at Green Acres Baptist Church—he said the new courthouse is nearing completion and the county plans to move the Animal Shelter to a more central location for increased adoptions. KETK
- ➤ Longview's sanitation division is set to restart its recycling program next month using a new materials recovery facility in Kilgore under a temporary contract until the Rivers facility reopens in November.
