- ➤ Downtown Live hosted its free spring concert at Heritage Plaza on Friday, April 4 with food trucks, drinks for sale, and seating recommendations. A special America 250 Kickoff concert featuring The Tuxedo Cats is set for April 11, and the series will continue every Friday until May 29. Longview News-Journal
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ A University of Houston report shows that Texas teacher salaries have dropped by about $5,000 over the past decade, with averages at $62,700 in 2024-25. New state measures, including HB 2 (aimed at tightening certification for K-12 core subjects), may help reverse the trend. Longview News-Journal
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ The East Texas Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse — ETCADA — installed a vending machine for free naloxone at 708 Glencrest Lane to reverse fentanyl overdoses. In its first month, the machine dispensed 150 doses and is supplied by the state-funded Naloxone Texas program across 35 East Texas counties. Longview News-Journal
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Athletes competed today at White Oak’s Tommy Atkins Relays where varsity boys and girls teams from area schools delivered strong performances. White Oak led the boys with 178 points while the girls scored 139.5 as competitors raced in hurdles, sprints, relays, and field events. Kilgore News Herald
