EDUCATION NEWS

➤ White Oak ISD faculty and parents voted to remove seven books from the school library since January; the books remain available in the public library so students can check them out after school — with a library card and parental permission. Longview News-Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

➤ The city of Longview is seeking about 40 lifeguards for the summer pool season at two public pools, including a new facility at Stamper Park. Applicants must be at least 15 and complete a certification course if not already certified. Longview News-Journal

SPORTS NEWS

➤ Rosters for the 21st annual Azalea Orthopedics All-Star High School Basketball Classic have been announced. The event will be held on Apr. 25 at Tyler Junior College’s Wagstaff Gymnasium with the girls game (5:30 p.m.) followed by the boys game, and all proceeds benefit Bethesda Health Clinic. ➤ Longview’s Jailiyah Rockmore and Kennedy Bailey earned superlative honors as district coaches selected the District 10-6A All-District Basketball Team for the 2025-2026 season, with Bethany Baltes named first team (Rockmore averaged 14 points in district play) Friday, Mar. 27. Longview News-Journal
➤ Local high school track meets concluded Saturday with Pine Tree (132 points) and Spring Hill leading the varsity events at Gladewater High School while Bullard claimed top scores at Tatum High School’s Eagle Relays as athletes posted competitive times and distances. Longview News-Journal
