COMMUNITY NEWS

  • KidsView Playground in Longview will welcome guests beginning Friday after repairs and improvements including new swing sets and an expanded toddler area. A Temple Trolley will be installed later due to distributor issues — officials noted that the adjacent park will be closed briefly during the installation.  Longview News-Journal

BUSINESS NEWS

  • East Texas Carports announced it is relocating its manufacturing operations to a new facility at 970 Post Oak Road in Kilgore to boost production capacity and improve access along I-20. The company will finish office construction and consolidate all operations by Summer 2025 + the move will let it offer custom cuts in more than 20 colors while reducing its reliance on external suppliers.  Kilgore News Herald

CRIME NEWS

  • On March 20, a Longview nursing home worker was arrested for tying a 55-year-old patient to her bed for more than five hours—she said she used leggings to keep the patient safe and did not notice until management called her back, and officials said the patient was not hurt.  KETK

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Texas House Representative Trent Ashby proposed Audrii’s Law—designed to close a legal loophole by requiring child groomers to register as sex offenders. The bill honors Audrii Cunningham, an 11-year-old who was kidnapped and murdered in February 2024.  KETK
  • Several East Texas law enforcement agencies, including Longview PD, trained at an abandoned school in Hallsville on an active shooter drill mandated by the state. The 16-hour exercise—spanning over two days of intense instruction—taught officers how to isolate threats, distract assailants and quickly neutralize dangerous situations.  KETK
