COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Longview Community Ministries runs its Meals with Love program to deliver meals to seniors and disabled residents using volunteers who pick up food from Newgate on Mobberly Ave (service center at 506 N. Second St.) as demand grows among local households.  Longview News-Journal
  • Longview residents can enjoy spring break events this week. The World of Wonders museum on E. Tyler St offers hours and activities while the public library hosts events from movie screenings to LEGO-A-THON, and the Kite Festival at Lear Park features Lady Chops’ drumming show on Friday at 2 p.m.  Longview News-Journal

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Exxon Mobil’s board unanimously recommended redomiciling from New Jersey to Texas; shareholders will vote on the move in May. Gov. Abbott praised the decision, saying Texas is using modern business laws (including the new business court) to attract companies.  Longview News-Journal

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Longview Public Library is hosting America 250, an art and essay contest inviting Gregg County students to share what America means to them as the nation nears its 250th birthday (entries are due by March 30 and winners will be announced in May).  Longview News-Journal

SPORTS NEWS

  • New Diana’s Taryn Reece earned Hitter of the Week honors and Mount Pleasant’s Kammie Terrell received Pitcher of the Week honors from the Longview News-Journal for standout softball performances in games played March 2-7.  Longview News-Journal
  • ETBU standout Piper Morton, a West Rusk High School alum, was named American Southwest Conference Hitter of the Week for games played March 2-8. She hit .438 with three runs and six RBI, helping her team post a 4-2 record in the NFCA Leadoff Classic in Georgia.  Kilgore News Herald
  • Hallsville baseball players earned weekly honors from the Longview News-Journal for games played March 2–7. Junior Aidan Symoniak and senior Cade Stuckey stood out as Hitter and Pitcher of the Week, showcasing their strong performances during the series.  Longview News-Journal
  • Wiley University announced Darrius Brooks, Ph.D. as its new Director of Athletics yesterday. He will lead the launch of e-sports, bass fishing, and women's flag football programs and restore golf with coach David Swanson.  Longview News-Journal
