BUSINESS NEWS

  • Texas Restaurant Association leaders met with local restaurateurs at Cace’s Kitchen in downtown Longview on Thursday to discuss how federal immigration enforcement hurts restaurant workforces and sales. They urged targeted reforms—such as temporary visa programs and protections for key workers—to restore staffing and bolster confidence.  Longview News-Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Gladewater and Daingerfield are set to improve local parks after receiving grants from the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department; Gladewater got $150,000 to add new playground equipment and sidewalks at Garland P. Ferguson Park, while Daingerfield received $88,659 for handicap-accessible playgrounds and baseball field updates at Irvin Park.  Longview News-Journal

SPORTS NEWS

  • Local high school softball teams in Longview are set to begin their season soon with previews naming key returning players and promising newcomers; coaches say teams will work on boosting teamwork (especially on defense) as they prepare for competitive play.  Longview News-Journal
  • Kilgore College football team signed 52 high school athletes on Feb. 4 on National Signing Day, head coach Willie Gooden said the new class fits the team culture and is set for growth. The signees include players from Longview + other local schools.  Longview News-Journal
  • The Kilgore College Rangers lost 10-6 and 5-2 to Alvin last Friday in non-conference softball — Camryn Milam and teammates sparked key plays. The Rangers will host Blinn at 1 and 3 p.m. on Saturday at The Ballpark at KC Commons.  Longview News-Journal
  • Mount Pleasant boys and Tyler Legacy girls clinched team championships on Monday at Pinecrest Country Club during the Longview Lobo Invitational Golf Tournament. Jacob Baker finished second in the boys’ individual round with a 73 while Olive Brookshire led the girls with a matching score.  Longview News-Journal
  • Longview High School assistant coach Oscar Wilson earned the Class 6A Region 6 Assistant Coach of the Year award on Friday, Feb. 6 after stepping in while head coach John King battled mouth cancer — the Texas High School Coaches Association also recognized coaches from Union Hill, Gladewater and Kilgore.  Longview News-Journal
  • On Friday, Feb. 6 at Panther Stadium, the Spring Hill Lady Panthers edged Pine Tree 4-3 with Kaylee Londeau scoring twice and assisting, while the Longview Lobos beat Forney 2-1 after Beto Campus scored the game-winning goal in tight district soccer contests.  Longview News-Journal
  • The Longview Lady Lobos beat North Forney 59-52 Friday at Lobo Coliseum when senior Jailiyah Rockmore sank clutch free throws to secure the win. The sweep bolsters the Lady Lobos ahead of Tuesday’s regular season finale at Royse City.  Longview News-Journal
  • On Tuesday, area high school basketball teams competed in close games as the Tatum Lady Eagles edged Gladewater 51-50 — Kamdyn Scott scored 29 points — and the Longview Lady Lobos reached 20-6 after a 54-32 win over Rockwall Heath; teams from New Diana, Troup, Brownsboro, and Jefferson also played.  Kilgore News Herald
