- ➤ The Texas Department of Public Safety urged Texans to prepare for winter hazards by checking vehicles and stocking emergency kits as ice, freezing rain, and snow approach the region. - ➤ Spring Hill beat Cumberland Academy in a doubleheader at Panther Gymnasium on Jan. 22. Star players Savannah Irwin and Elizabeth Corbitt led the Lady Panthers to a 71-23 win while John Harris helped secure a 55-15 victory. Longview News-Journal
- ➤ The Longview Lady Lobos defeated Rockwall 49-40 on Thursday, Jan. 22, led by Bethany Baltes (20 points) and Jailiyah Rockmore (16 points), avenging an earlier district loss. Their win extended the team's four-game winning streak. Longview News-Journal
- ➤ Kilgore College’s Lady Rangers and men’s teams won Region XIV road games on Wednesday, with wins over Angelina College (in Lufkin) and Bossier Parish. The Lady Rangers will face Coastal Bend College today at noon, and the men’s team will play Panola College on Saturday, March 7. Longview News-Journal
- ➤ NJCAA Division I basketball polls show the KC Rangers ranked No. 20—teams from across the region also received votes. The poll was released Thursday, Jan. 22 at 11:48 a.m. and reflects recent college athletic performances. Longview News-Journal
- ➤ At a gala Wednesday in Tyler, Haynes King and Joe Greene were honored for their football achievements. King received the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award while Joe Greene became the first Legends Award honoree (with Kerra Moore announced as the scholarship recipient). Longview News-Journal
- ➤ Kilgore College Rangers will open the softball season on Tuesday, Jan. 27 at The Ballpark at KC Commons with a 1 and 3 p.m. doubleheader against Angelina College, while a postponed game against Ranger College is rescheduled for March 3. Longview News-Journal
