COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A Celebration of Life for Brent Taylor, who died last week at age 81, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at First United Methodist Church in downtown Longview, with a reception in the Cook Foyer to honor his 43 year radio career and his impact on local football.  Longview News-Journal
  • Charles Taylor and Rev. Dr. Evan Dolive were named as the 2026 Unity Honors recipients to be celebrated at a luncheon on Feb. 25 at the Maude Cobb Convention and Activity Center (100 Grand Blvd). The awards recognize their efforts to boost community unity and support.  Longview News-Journal

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Gregg County agricultural students participated in the expo at the Longview Fairgrounds on Jan. 8 and 9, showcasing animals, mechanical projects and home economics competitions. Top winners were announced across livestock and ag mechanics contests.  Longview News-Journal

SPORTS NEWS

  • On Tuesday, the Spring Hill Lady Panthers defeated Pittsburg 8-0 as Kaylee Londeau scored three times and Kambree McDaniel added two goals. Monday, the Tatum Lady Eagles beat Tenaha 2-0 with Avery Fields-Polk scoring twice; Tatum will visit Diboll on Friday.  Longview News-Journal
  • The Lady Lobos beat the North Forney Lady Falcons 59-44 on Tuesday to move to 17-4 overall and 3-2 in District 10-6A play; they will host Royse City on Friday.  Longview News-Journal
  • The Longview Lobos beat the North Forney Falcons 68-60 at Lobo Coliseum on Tuesday, Jan. 13 to even their district record at 2-2 (overall 18-6). The Lobos will visit Royse City on Friday.  Longview News-Journal
  • Former Lobo football players Jalen Hale and Taylor Tatum have chosen new college teams for the upcoming season. Hale is headed to SMU from Alabama + Tatum will join Michigan after leaving Oklahoma.  Longview News-Journal
  • The Tatum Lady Eagles defeated Crockett on penalty kicks after regulation ended tied 2-2 on Tuesday. Miranda Alvarez gave Tatum a 1-0 lead and Avery Fields-Polk scored early in the second half while Dayana Miller made three key saves during the shootout.  Kilgore News Herald
  • Beckville’s Adyson Davis was chosen for the Texas Girls Coaches Association All-Star Volleyball Games and will play for the Red team in Arlington from July 16-18. She led the Ladycats last season with top service numbers (57 aces, 203 kills, 313 digs) during a 35-win campaign.  Longview News-Journal
