COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Longview Animal Care and Adoption Center marks a decade of improvements by expanding its enrichment program, medical foster initiatives, and transport van services to better care for animals and help them find homes. Staff and volunteers work daily to help critters thrive while urging residents to adopt and volunteer.  Longview News-Journal
  • A winning $2 million lottery ticket was sold at Mr Kwik, 2000 South High Street, as the Texas Lottery Commission confirmed on Facebook last Saturday + it is among the highest Powerball prizes won in the state.  Longview News-Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • After pausing due to extra holiday trash, the city of Longview will resume collecting yard waste and real Christmas trees on regular trash days. Residents may also drop off trees at the compost site at 2020 Swinging Bridge Road from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday.  Longview News-Journal

HEALTH NEWS

  • Christus Health will open its oncology clinic at NorthPark campus on Hawkins Parkway this month. The clinic will feature a PET scanner as the cornerstone of an emerging cancer program, and the new Christus Cancer Center under construction is expected to open in the fall.  Longview News-Journal

SPORTS NEWS

  • Overton senior Ashby Croswell recorded a 32-point, 20-rebound double-double and led her team to a 54-42 win over New Summerfield in District 22-2A play on Friday — Aniston Holleman added eight points and 12 rebounds, and Overton now sits 10-10 as they will face Carlisle next Tuesday.  Kilgore News Herald
  • Officials from the East Texas Coaches Association announced seven football figures will be honored at the 2026 ETCA Hall of Honor Banquet at Holiday Inn North Infinity Event Center in Longview at 6 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 21.  Longview News-Journal
  • The Blue Bell/TSWA Class 6A All-State Volleyball Team for the 2025 season named Sophee Peterson of Byron Nelson as Player of the Year and Leslie Jackson of Southlake Carroll as Coach of the Year. TSWA members cast votes based on nominations from coaches and peers around the state.  Longview News-Journal
  • On New Year's Day, the Toyota ShareLunker Program launched its 40th season in Athens, inviting anglers to catch a 13-pound largemouth bass and report their catch via the hotline until March 31 + the program helps stock bigger fish for public lakes.  Longview News-Journal
  • Division 1 champion Goliad and Division II champ Boyd topped votes for the Blue Bell/TSWA Class 3A All-State Volleyball Team for the 2025 season. The teams tied for Coach and Player of the Year honors after TSWA members cast their ballots.  Kilgore News Herald
  • The No. 22 ranked Kilgore College Rangers beat Lee College Navigators 91-66 on Saturday at Masters Gymnasium — five players scored in double figures to boost their record to 11-2. They will play in Paris on Wednesday and Coastal Bend Saturday.  Kilgore News Herald
  • The Region XIV Conference basketball season heats up as TVCC leads men at 12 to 1 and women at 12 to 2 (Monday's update). Wednesday and Saturday games include Kilgore at Paris, Lamar State Port Arthur at Lee, and other matchups throughout the conference.  Longview News-Journal
