- ➤ A house fire at a Waskom home killed two boys, aged 8 and 11, on Tuesday and injured their father while a GoFundMe was set up to cover burial costs; investigators determined the fire’s origin and report no evidence of foul play + the inquiry is ongoing. Longview News-Journal

- ➤ Today, 12:45 p.m. to 4 p.m., Painting with a Twist at 100 Tall Pines Ave. in Longview hosts a guided Paint Your Pet art camp for kids ages 6 and up that provides supplies and healthy snacks. Longview News-Journal
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The city attorney’s office dropped charges against One Love Longview director Amanda Veasy for violating the anti-camping ordinance near the formerly used McCann Road property (local business owners had raised safety concerns in summer 2024). The dismissal signals a shift in how the city addresses homelessness. Longview News-Journal
- ➤ Burn bans went into effect on Jan. 1 in Harrison and Panola counties due to dry conditions and wildfires. Harrison County’s ban began at 3 p.m. while Panola’s will last seven days as officials work to keep residents safe. Longview News-Journal
